Why choose Abu Dhabi for your business? The capital of the UAE offers a stable economy, government support, and access to growing industries like energy, technology, finance, and logistics.
Abu Dhabi provides a strong regulatory framework, world-class infrastructure, and opportunities for both local and international businesses. It is an ideal destination for entrepreneurs who want long-term growth and market stability.
However, understanding licensing requirements, choosing the right structure, and completing documentation can be challenging. This is where professional company setup consultants Abu Dhabi play an important role.
Working with experienced business setup consultants in Abu Dhabi helps you avoid delays, reduce risks, and make informed decisions. Whether you need help with registration, licensing, or compliance, expert support ensures your business setup Abu Dhabi is done correctly.
This is the first decision we make with every client, and it’s the one that shapes everything after it — your costs, your visa numbers, who you’re allowed to sell to, and whether you need an office at all.
We’ve seen too many businesses come to us in their second year asking us to fix a structure that never suited them. So here’s the honest comparison we’d give you on a call:
| Mainland | Free Zone | Offshore | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foreign ownership | 100% for most activities | 100% always | 100% always |
| Sell directly inside the UAE | Yes, anywhere in the country | Only through a distributor or branch | No |
| Office required | Yes, with registered tenancy | Flexi-desk usually accepted | Not required |
| Government tenders | Eligible | Not eligible | Not eligible |
| Visa quota | Based on your office size | Fixed by your package | None |
| Activity range | Widest — retail, contracting, industrial | Limited to that zone’s sectors | Holding and international trade only |
| Best for | UAE clients, retail, contracting, trading | Consultants, e-commerce, IT, media, export | Asset holding, international structuring |
Swipe the table sideways to see all columns on mobile.
The short version we give clients: if your customers are here in the UAE, you want mainland. If your customers are overseas or online, a free zone is usually lighter and faster. If you’re holding assets rather than trading, offshore may be enough on its own.
But there’s a layer underneath that. “Free zone” isn’t one option — Abu Dhabi has several, and each one is built for specific sectors. We match you to the right one rather than the popular one.
We could put a number on this page. We’d rather give you the right one.
Anyone quoting you a price before they know what your business does is guessing, and that guess always goes up later. Here’s what we look at when we build your figure:
Send us three things — what your business does, how many visas you need, and whether you need an office — and we’ll come back with a real number built on your situation, not a headline figure designed to get you on a call.
Your licence type is decided by what you do, not by what you’d prefer. Getting it wrong is the most common reason applications are rejected — and the most expensive thing to correct afterwards.
Plenty of businesses genuinely sit across two categories. A company that imports a product and consults on it may need two activities on one licence — or in some cases two separate licences entirely. We check this at the start, so you never discover it at the bank counter.
Most delays we’re asked to rescue aren’t complicated. They’re documents attested the wrong way, or not at all. So we check yours before anything is filed.
Anything issued outside the UAE almost always needs attestation — from your home country, then the UAE embassy there, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here. Non-English and non-Arabic documents need legal translation. This is the step that holds up more applications than any other, and it’s the first thing we look at.
With complete, correctly attested documents, a straightforward free zone company is usually ready in around one to two weeks. A mainland company typically takes two to three weeks. Activities that need an external regulator’s approval take longer — sometimes considerably, depending on that authority.
Visas run after your licence is issued and add roughly one to two weeks per person. Your bank account is separate again and sits entirely with the bank; we prepare the file properly, but we won’t promise you a timeline the bank controls.
Every one of these is avoidable, and almost all of them surface in our very first conversation with you. That conversation costs you nothing.
This is the question we’re asked more than any other, and the answer is better than most people expect.
Foreign investors can hold full ownership of a mainland Abu Dhabi company across the large majority of commercial and professional activities. Free zone companies have always allowed full foreign ownership. There remains a limited list of strategic-impact activities — certain security, defence, energy and banking-related fields — where Emirati participation is still required. Most businesses fall well outside it.
Some professional activities still require a Local Service Agent, and this is where we spend time reassuring clients. A Local Service Agent is not a partner. They hold no shares, no ownership, no claim on your profits, and no say in how you run your company. They act as a liaison with government departments for an annual fee, and we document the arrangement so your position is fully protected.
Getting your trade licence is the beginning of your company, not the end of the job. In our experience, most penalties businesses pay in their first two years come from what happens after setup.
One team, one point of contact, from your first licence through every renewal after it.
